The first row of this campground has an outstanding view of the Kenai River as it enters the Cook Inlet, but the entire campground has the narrowest sites I have ever seen. Our neighbors sewer connection was 3 ft from our steps, the only view we had were trailers, we had to be careful not to hit our neighbors rig when opening the door of our truck, I even had to back out of our pull-through site when leaving because there was no way we could squeeze out through the front. And to top that off, the day we left was the start of the Dip Net fishing season, so he raised his rates from $30 to $45, which we heard from another camper a week later was increased to $55. Never again.

Probably the nicest campground in Homer. Sites are level, terraced into a hill leading down toward the bay with excellent views of the bay and “the Spit” and a trail down to the beach. Free Wi-Fi on their patio. Some folks might prefer camping on “the Spit”, but it was too crowded, too windy and too dusty for our liking.

Clean, wide, level, gravel sites that can accommodate any size rig. A few miles from town and about one mile off the Seward Highway.

Scenic View RV is located midway between Soldotna and Homer. They have an outstanding 180° view of the Cook Inlet, Mt. Ileana and Mt. Redoubt absolutely justifying the name Scenic View. We have camped at fancier parks with more amenities and activities, but we have never enjoyed a campground more than Scenic View RV. We met some of the nicest people there and the new owners, are the friendliest and funniest campground owners we have ever encountered. Each night they have a community campfire, one night they hosted a potluck dinner featuring freshly caught razor clams. When the salmon are running, they can arrange for a local commercial fisherman to deliver fresh salmon at an unbelievably low price. We initially booked two nights but extended our stay to a week. While we were there, almost everyone we talked to extended their stay once they realized what a friendly and scenic campground it is. I don’t rate many campgrounds a 10, but will always remember Scenic View RV as one of our favorites.

Williwaw Campground was one of our favorites on this trip. The sites are huge, paved and level. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. The sites are so large and the vegetation so thick that your neighbors are hardly visible. There is a salmon viewing deck and a 2 mile, level hiking / biking trail. Potable water is available but you can not pump it directly into your rig, you’ll have to haul it in a container. There is no dump station at the campground but the gas station in Girdwood has a free one. The western loop can be reserved; the eastern loop is 1st come 1st served but acquiring a site shouldn’t be a problem anytime during the week and by arriving early on the weekends. If you’re interested in dry camping in a beautiful, wilderness setting you’ll enjoy Williwaw.

This is a fun campground. The campsites are spaced out adequately with vegetation between them and easy access. There are 1.5 miles south of town on the Tok cutoff; so, if you decide to go to town, you will want to drive. Fee-based Wi-Fi is available throughout the campground. Free wi-fi is available on the patio next to the office. The fun begins each evening when the owner, performs a comedy skit and “pancake toss”. Everyone gets two attempts at tossing pancakes into a bucket with the prize being a free sourdough pancake breakfast. Those were the best pancakes I have ever eaten (mine were free). They also serve dinner, reindeer chili or stew in a big fresh homemade sourdough bread bowl with homemade pie for dessert.

Full service campground with everything you could need. Located a reasonable distance to Anchorage, yet far enough out for a wilderness setting. The only negative experience was their Wi-Fi service. The campsite price includes 24 hours of connect time which is quite a bit if you are diligent about logging on, conducting your business, then logging off. I received a strong signal for the first four days of our stay. On the fifth day, July 4th., there was no signal except on their patio. I was told that it might be two days because of the holiday. On the 7th day I inquired and was told that it was fixed. When I said it still wasn’t working, she changed her story and said, “they are working on it.” Another staff person then said, “it has been reported as down.” Each person seemed to make up their own story, nobody knew what the true status was and nobody seemed to care. Other than this one inconvenience, it is a great campground.

While more civilized and closer to park activities than Savage River, Riley Creek still offers a great wilderness setting. Sites are designated as 30 ft or less and 30 ft or more, you must choose a size when making reservations. Site selection, within size category, is first-come first-served, so arrive early. Several of the 31 ft plus sites looked awfully short to me and no one was policing site selection to prevent someone with a 30 ft or less reservation from snagging a 31 ft plus site. The nearby Mercantile offered showers, internet, groceries, and supplies, but the prices were outrageous; try to bring whatever you need.

An adequate park is about all I can give it. Each site has grass between them but are very narrow; your neighbors sewer hookup will be right by your picnic table. Sites are short, not enough room for your trailer and TV. Has satellite TV but that's only 6 channels. Broadband Internet available in a room near the office which was free so that's a step in the right direction. Mechanic available in the evenings for oil changes, minor repairs, etc but very expensive; $30 PLUS parts for an oil change; a dealer in town did mine for $20. As with all parks pets must remain on a leash, but not so for the owners dog who is allowed to wander around freely, frequently peeing on our picnic table. We'll go somewhere else next time.

A nice park for an overnight; looked to be the best in town. Some grass between most sites, free WiFi near the office, CATV at some sites, RV wash $2 for 5 minutes. Located right next to the museum which has some interesting memorabilia.

One of two parks in town, 2 miles east of downtown, the first one you'll come to if heading west on the highway. A variety of sites laid out in a helter skelter manner. Plenty of shade, grass between most sites, picnic tables, some fire pits, free WiFi in the store. The water pressure was a bit low but acceptable and there was only 1 TV channel. The other park in town supposedly has better pressure and more channels but is basically a big gravel lot, no campground ambiance. Campground Services sells fuel and provides repair services.

This park has two extremely different sections. Down below in a crowded gravel lot, along the side of the road, there are full hook-up sites. Above, in the trees, are water / electric sites in a beautiful setting. The park has some nice features. Their RV wash is on a cement slab, unlike all the others I’ve seen on dirt (mud) and the water is hot. They have a pet wash room where you can give Fido a bath. Their WiFi is free and works pretty well. They can do an oil change for you or you can do it yourself for free if you buy the parts from them or you can do it yourself with your parts for $5; all on a nice cement slab, no laying in the dirt. They sell gas with a discount for campers at a very competitive price. The park is 2 miles from town. We'll definitely stop here on the way back to the lower 48.

This park is a nice stop over on the long leg from Whitehorse to Tok. We had planned on only staying overnight but extended our stay an extra night because it was so peaceful. A good number of the sites are right on the water with electric & water. The restrooms and showers were spotless. There were a couple of quirks; they only accept cash, there are no trash receptacles (you pack out what you bring in due to bears), there were a lot of flies near the water but very few mosquitoes, and the power occasionally drops out for short periods. These negatives might discourage some folks from staying here but the beauty and peacefulness of this park easily overcame the negatives.

Nothing fancy about this campground; sites were level but narrow, several full-timers scattered throughout, no scenic view. There are much nicer campgrounds in the area. We would stay here again but only because they are Passport America, which saved us 50% ($75 for the week we were there). They have free Wi-Fi, but don’t encourage its use. It is primarily for the owner’s personal use.

Difficult to get reservations, but well worth the effort. Outstanding wilderness setting. Site selection is first-come first-served. We arrived early so no problems finding a site for our 29 ft 5th wheel. If you are big and arrive late you could have problems.

This is the only full-service campground in town and is located within walking distance. Sites were level, longer sites cost more. Free Wi-Fi.

Full hookup sites are located in a gravel lot, we opted for W/E which had lush grass between sites. Free Wi-Fi available at most sites. Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet setting. Excellent choice if you want to stay on the outskirts of Anchorage.

J&H Wilderness Resort and RV Park is a beautiful park located right on the shore of Muncho Lake. Of their 72 total sites they have 18 backin sites on the beach and 37 pull-thrus. Most have a view of the lake. The park is clean and quiet; the staff was very friendly. There is a small restaurant and they sell fuel. We'll definitely stop here next time through.

I‘m not sure what all the excitement is about, regarding this campground. It is clean, many sites are back to back so on one side you have a nice grassy area (but the other side is tight) and it has easy access. But, the dog run is tiny, it is on a busy street with a large apartment complex located behind it (zero nature ambiance) and the WiFi didn’t work for several hours. All this for a whopping $39 a night. If I hadn’t been so tired after a long day of driving I would have tried somewhere else considering the price.

A nice little park with lots of grass and friendly staff. The store has the best selection of supplies I’ve ever seen. Be careful with directions though, UT recently changed the exit numbers. My GPS told me to exit but I followed the directions in the Trailer Life directory and had to double back a couple of miles. I’m still not sure of the exit number until I go back that way later this morning, but it is the Highway 91 exit on the South end of town, not #364.

This is an electric only park. The sites were all level but you parallel park along each side of a paved road, nothing special. Close access to the town of Banff. The full hookup park, Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court, has more of a campground feel to it and we will stay there next time we pass thru.

A clean park with grass between each site. Some sites could be hard to get out of due to the pine trees and will certainly be a problem as the trees continue to grow. Close proximity to a golf course, Wal-Mart and Safeway grocery store. Free WiFi.

Whistlers is a beautiful park with a wilderness feel to it even though there are 781 sites. This is our favorite campground so far this year. There are many pull-thrus, lots of shade, clean restrooms and it is quiet. The town of Jasper is only a couple of miles away and there are several scenic drives with an abundance of wildlife close by.

A nice park and a great stop over before entering Banff NP. Sites are fairly level, wide and long. Most are shaded. Friendly staff.

Very nice park with friendly, helpful staff. Easy access although their sign is hard to spot. Several nice pet areas where they can run off leash. Rate reflects a weekly rate. WiFi worked great.

Very clean park; level, well manicured sites. Dog friendly; even has a fenced in area where they can run around and do their business. Large community center with exercise room, public computer available (although it is an old slow machine and dialup, not connected to WiFi), computer lab for training classes, library. Beautiful observatory. Convenient shopping very nearby. A short drive from the freeway. Unfortunately the park is situated near railroad tracks and every passing train blows their whistles at every crossing which is annoying in the middle of the night. I would rate this park higher but I thought the sites were narrow, the WiFi was very expensive compared to other parks and I was extremely disappointed with the operations of the observatory. When checking in on a Tuesday, the hostess told me the next scheduled viewing would be Thursday evening. We only planned on staying one night. Wednesday morning, while walking the dogs, I heard the observatory closing. The operator told me I just missed viewing the moon and Saturn. He confirmed that the next viewing would be Thursday evening so we decided to stay 2 additional nights. No one could explain why the observatory was not made available more often. On Thursday, late afternoon, the operator decided to cancel the evening viewing session because there were a few clouds in the sky. As it turned out, the clouds were gone at the scheduled viewing time but the observatory remained closed. Very disappointing.

We chose this campground because of a recent favorable write up in Trailer Life so we had high expectations. As it turned out, it was nothing fancy. They do not accept credit cards; cash or check only. When making a reservation I confirmed that they had E-mail access in the office, as their ad claims, thinking there would be a computer setup with Internet access. While checking in I was told there was a room with modem access. I told her I didnt have a modem with me and she said there was one already in the room. As it turned out, the only thing in the room was a simple phone line. I think a lot of locals full time there because between 5:00 am and 6:00 am dozens of pickups left and then returned in the evening, many parking alongside the roadway making them quite narrow. It was a convenient location to visit the Creole Nature Trail which we highly recommend (the trail, not this campground) and there is an excellent Cajon seafood restaurant within a mile or two, The Boiling Point. Washed a weeks worth of laundry; laundry room was clean but half of the washers were older. Did not use the showers or bathrooms. Well look for something else next time.

We were pleasantly surprised at the accommodations at this campground. We chose it because it was midway between two other stops and they had free WiFi. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Even though they are a KOA park they still honored the Good Sam discount. It happened to be my wifes birthday so the catfish and shrimp dinners were a unexpected treat. The WiFi worked fine as long as I went outside the rig to get an unobstructed view of their antenna. I could not get a signal from inside the rig, but what the heck, it was free. We highly recommend this park.
